2007 Summer Intensive Workshop 
 
July 23rd-28th

This summer in July, The Conservatory of Ballet & Theatrical Arts is going to hold a unique and very
influential summer workshop in the Eastern Idaho area. The 2007 Summer Intensive is a great
opportunity for performers as young as 4 to 18 to work with experianced  instructors,  participating
daily classes, rehearsal and a performance. Each students will be able to enroll in three classes
with choices from Classical Ballet, Acting, and Fine Arts. The Summer Instensive can be up to
17 hours of technique, in exploring the art of imagination, creativity and self improvement, in a fun
enviroment with instructors who have experience working with children.

Classes:
*Creative Movement and Drama (ages 4-7)
*Beg/Intermediate Ballet
*Stage Makeup/Skits/Pantomime
*Broadway Song and Dance 
*Pencil Stetching/Painting with acrylic and watercolor - EISF ready.

$80.00 Workshop Fee Includes:
-Up to15 hours of classes of your choice between Ballet, Acting and Fine Arts
- Free CBTA 2007 Summer Intensive Workshop Tshirt
- Daily snack at break each day
- 1 hour performance on Saturday 28th, showcasing skills learned at workshop
- 1 hour Cast Pizza Party immediately following performance on the 28th

Important Information

Class Discriptions

Creative Movement and Drama:

This class helps develop motor skills, coordination, encourages imagination and creative thinking.
Children are more motivated to learn when at least one part of each day's learning is "fun". 
Communication skills are emphasized in Creative movement and drama.  Children learn to
express themselves using voice, hands, face and body.
Children are often restless. Creative
movement and drama can be a healthy release of tension as well as a way of working through
problem situations and team work by acting out different parts together.  Pretending to be animals,
different emotions, personalities and performing help children become more self aware

Beginning/Intermediate Ballet:
Classes that focus on classical divisional training.  Students will learn combinations and terms associated
with each level at Barre, Centre and Across the Floor.  Each level will learn a piece for the performance Sat.28th.

Stage Makeup/Skits/Pantomime:
Classes that go through the basics in acting using improve games,  paper bag skit and play writing that help students
learn how to develop a character.  Each class time will focus on different ways to become a character, like using stage
makeup to become an old person, sick person or just how to use stage makeup when on stage as normal.  This class
also includes Pantomime, a style of acting were the actor can not talk; all acting must be done by actions set to music. 
Students will learn how to paint their face like a mime and to tell a story through their actions and not their voice.  

Broadway Song and Dance:
Start Spreadin' The News!"  This class allows students to work with a vocal instructor and learn how to do basic
Broadway song and dance moves.  Broadway song and dance will help students gain coordination and learn how to
breath correctly while dancing and singing.  Children will learn a fun Broadway song that is set to chorography for the performance.

Fine Arts:
These classes are designed to help with creativity and technique.  Students will have an opportunity to work on a
piece to get it ready for EISF with award winning artists.  After Students are coached on specific mediums and styles,
they will choose a medium and an idea for their final piece.  Instructors will help will help them get there piece ready
for display at the performance on Sat.28th and for 2007 Eastern Idaho State Fair.


Workshop Polices

Schedule for classes:
A schedule for more specific times when classes will be running, along with a paperwork for attire and supplies for each class is
going to be mailed around June when all application are in. There must be at least 4 students in each class to run a class. If class
does not meet the minimum amount to offer the class a choice to choose another class or a refund will be offered. 


Tuition:

To reserve a spot for students attending workshop a $30.00 deposit and registration form is due before June 15th. Please remember
space is limited, so to ensure your child attends do not wait until the last date to send in deposit and registration form. The
remaining balance of $50.00 is due on or before classes start Monday, July 23rd 2007.

*Participants are intitled to a 100% refund, if cancellation accures by June 15th.  A 30$ processing fee applies after June 15th.
(Directors will be negotiable in a cases of emergencies)


Workshop Performance:
Students will receive their T-Shirts during the week of the workshop and MUST be worn at the performance. Any student planning on
 performing has to be in class every day in order to perform. Please make every effort to get your child to their classes on time and
ready to go.

Nikkii Riley-CBTA Artistic and Ballet Director
(Classical Ballet, Acting and Fine Arts)
Started her training in 1984, at the Idaho Falls Ballet Society, when it was under the direction of her grandma, Marilynn Peery. She continued her training with Cheryl Crouch at Dances Arts Academy in Idaho Falls, Idaho until the age of 13 when she received a scholarship to dance at Marius Zirra School of Ballet in Pocatello, Idaho were she trained on Pointe and in Advanced Ballet until her senior year when she returned to Dance Arts Acdemay to perform Giselle, a Pa De Deux on Pointe in their Spring Varity Show. In 1999 Ms. Riley won First Place in the Idaho State Drama Competition and was double entered at State every year while attending Blackfoot High School. After high school Ms. Riley went on to train with Marla Hansen, the director of the Idaho Dance Theater, from 1999-2001 at Boise State University in Advanced ballet and Pointe classes. While majoring in Theater with a minor in Dance she danced in Del Soul, a partnering group that performs the Mambo, Samba, Swing, Jitter-bug, cabaret, and Funk Jazz for local events. In 2001 she continued training at local Ballet schools and moved back to Boise after getting married and began training with Canyon County Dance Academy in Caldwell with Lori Evens, a Company dancer for Idaho Dance Theater and Advance Ballet teacher for CCDA, where Ms. Riley Performed on Pointe in their spring show Peter Pan. Nikkii still loves to dance and perform. She feels it is fundamental as a teacher, dancer and performer to continue training. This is why she will remain to take upper level ballet classes and summer workshops in places like Boise State University to help her stay strong.  Nikkii loves to teach and has had training on how to work with and teach children over her years of working.  She looks forward to passing her love of dance through teaching and performing.






Jamie Warren-CBTA Theatrical and Co Artistic Director
(Acting and Fine Arts)
Has studied acting and been performing on stage for 15 years. Starting at a young age she danced with the Idaho Falls Ballet Society. With her entertaining, energetic and outgoing personality it wasn’t hard for her to steal the spotlight. In the Idaho State Drama Competitions Mrs. Warren high honors and went double entered with Humorous, Dramatic and Pantomime every year in high school, winning Second Place in Pantomime her junior year. Mrs. Warren was the President of her class, the Drama club and she entertained crowds as the funny Mascot her senior year at BHS. She has supported and performed in community theatre plays, which include Hagar the Horrible, Annie, A Rented Christmas, and Juke Box Saturday Night. She performed at the Eastern Idaho State Fair in 1999 and won First Place in the Farm Bureau Talent Show. Her most recent studies have been with Broadway Talent in Salt Lake City where she began working with professional photographers and an agent. While at Broadway Talent she attended workshops which include “Professional Headshots”, “Audition Opportunities”, and “Auditioning for T.V Film” with professional actor David Stevens. Jamie loves the performing Arts and wants to give the community a place to learn, imagine, and create.
 









Brianna Kirkham-Vocal Coach From Idaho Falls, Idaho

Mrs. Kirkham has been singing for the public for 22 years. Her mother and her write songs, which can be heard on the Radio (Sounds of Sunday on KLCE 97.3). Brianna was the President of the Show Choir in High School, and at performed at Disney World in Florida. She went to State Vocal Competitions, and was selected to perform at the State Choir Competition in Boise, in 1998. Mrs. Kirkham has never stopped performing and has been plays such as; Wizard of OZ, Westside story, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream coat, and other miscellaneous performances. She has had 14 years piano training, and 12 years dance training (ballet, jazz, clog, tap). Her dream has always been to start a children’s Show Choir in Idaho. Helping as the Vocal Coach for C.B.T.A. is the start to fulfilling her dream. Her areas of expertise include; vocal strengthening, breathing techniques, voice projection, choir voice, solo voice, harmonization, pitch coaching, correcting tone deafness, Show singing, Broadway musicals, and expressive singing. She is dedicated to improving children’s lives, including her 3 young ones at home. Mrs. Kirkham’s over-all goal is to improve the life of a child by, helping them achieve their goals and showing them what incredible talents they have.

The Peery Family-Fine Arts
The Peery Family are residents of Blackfoot and have won many different types awards in art shows in the area with mediums such as watercolor, oils, acrylic pastels, colored pencil, pencils sketch and ink. They have worked in styles that include logo design, characters, comic book, portraits, animals, and landscape. Most of them have instructed children for several years for elementary levels and in upper level classes.
